TRAVELLING TO HELSINKI
There are direct flight connections daily to Helsinki from all major European cities and numerous intercontinental flights. Helsinki can be reached by ferries from Stockholm, Tallinn, Lübeck and Travemünde and by rail from Eastern Europe. Transportation from the airport to the centre of Helsinki by airport bus cost FIM 27, by regional bus route 615 FIM 16, by taxi FIM 100 and by airport taxi approximately FIM 50-70. The shared airport taxi should be booked at the Yellow Line or Airport Taxi desks in the arrival hall of the airport. Taxis accept major credit cards. The distance between the airport and the city centre is about 16 kilometres. The railway station and the ferry terminals are situated in the centre of Helsinki. The official carrier of the conference is Finnair. VISA
No visas are required for visitors from the European Union and most other countries. However, a visa is required from some countries. It is advisable to contact your local Finnish Embassy or Consulate.

CLIMATE
The weather in Helsinki in August and September is variable. The average daily maximum temperature is a little under +20 C . The sun rises at 6 a.m. and sets at 20.30 p.m.

HOW TO FIND THE UIAH
The University of Art and Desing Helsinki UIAH (in Finnish Taideteollinen korkeakoulu) and Media Centre Lume (in Finnish Mediakeskus Lume) are situated in the same building as the famous Arabia porcelain factory. The distance between Centrum and the UIAH is about 6 kilometres. Bus no 71 at platform 7 depart from the Central Railway Station to the UIAH. Press the signal when you see the Arabia Factory's chimney. Tram no 6 is also passing the Railway Station and its terminal point to the UIAH.
A single bus or tram ticket fare costs FIM 10. The main entrance to the UIAH can be found middle of building under three flagpoles.

THE SAMPO HALL AND STUDIO THEATRE are the main venues to the conference at the Media Centre Lume. The Sampo Hall has a permanent seating capacity of 300 and by adding chairs it reaches a maximum capacity of 370. The Sampo Hall is also equipped with a catering kitchen, cafeteria and nearby foyer. Studio Theatre has an open, flexible space with seating capacity 150.

MEALS are not included in the conference fees. A reasonable priced lunch serves at the UIAH's restaurants. | |
