The choice
of media and subject matter has always been linked in my
work. This is evident in recent sculptures formed from multiple
printings of between 80 and 120 separate photo-etchings.
These combine to form stacks (Imago) in which there is a
direct co-relation between image and structure.
The use
of lenticular imaging in 12/02/93 requires the interactive
perception of the viewer to enable the sequence to unfold.
They are thus implicated as non-passive observers, in a
work, which refers to a notorious sequence of video stills
recording the abduction of a child in full public view.
In recent
PhotoShop productions the use of layers became relevant
to concepts. In last Confession for example, the photograph
of a perforated surface is systematically erased in relation
to the subject's surface topology, enabling the partial
perception of a background image.
Concern
with surface topology is further extended in The Stars Burnt
Out in which red-hot needles are used to perforate a layered
paper surface. Current endeavours are to deploy laser technology
in the digital execution of complex galaxies in large format
productions.
In summary,
my project will further explore the actual and virtual perforation
of surface in the appropriate execution of concept.
