In Digital Surface Project I'm working on theme My House.

I will carry out comparison between qualities low and high, good taste or elegance and bad taste. I also try to set philosophical themes like truth, beauty, being and representation in a context of everydayness. I'm interested in fragile and vague things in human life, things that we may be shamed on or want to hide or are not quite aware of. This leads me to consider the idea of seeing, eyesight, comparing issues seeing and truth.

I'm working on installations that are representing roomlike spaces. I attach large hand printed woodcut prints on the walls. On top of the prints I will project moving image, ending up to create a living collage. I cut and edit the videos by computer, also making digital animating on basis of the films.

By constructing these installations I'm looking for a new way of exhibiting prints, as well as trying to create new ways to look at a print as an artwork, trying to find new ways to see. With bringing together mediums that do not seem to belong together, old and new ways of expression, handmade prints and digital video, my aim is to bring air to the work, to set an unstable situation, to lead a spectator to different directions.
For prints I borrow shapes from homely textiles, striped and checked patterns.
I spite of this conptualizing approach I still want to allow the spiritual quality within the prints. I intend to set a simultaneous presence of mundane and high, or holy.

Of my recent works

For a couple of years now, I have been working on a an installation: "My House: wallpaper experiences". It contains woodcut prints hanged on the walls very thight, presenting wallpapers and artworks at the same time. I have been printing very simple and silent pictures, mostly stripes, smaller and bigger prints. With these stripes, I try to create still, even meditative scenes, walls, if possible, rooms.

The time factor interests me that much that I have made experiments to use video image as part of my artwork. I find it stimulating to combi9ne things which do not seem to belong together, to be able to create new ways to see. A video image with audio offers exciting possibilities when combined with two-dimensional pictures. It may bring more specific details along, or more intense atmosphere into the installation. Another reason for these experiments is to reflect on the conventions of exhibiting (showing) art. I find it interesting to challenge the ways of presenting and seeing my own prints.

I have noticed that I do not so much only make prints anymore, but deal with the concept of printmaking. My point of view has gradually changed and I have become interested in the research of the process itself, from the inside of it. The process of printmaking seems to be significant and has become a part of the contents of my work.
