Important resources

University of Helsinki, Dept of Psychology. The Department of Psychology at the University of Helsinki has a research group on Traffic Safety, headed by professor Heikki Summala. The most useful piece of research by the U of Helsinki group is in Kohtaamisonnettomuudet päätieverkolla - kehitys ja syyt, Tiehallinnon selvityksiä 43/2003. Their measure ("S" and "R" in Ilpo's lectures) for interaction was how attention in children (S) was related to how often drivers end up to the left lane (R) as a result ot this interaction. Here's the most important table from the publication: interaction with children is not the most important thing causing danger situations, but one of the most important ones. Sorry: this is in Finnish only. The key rows are marked with red color.
